There is a private space (VIUSPACE or portal VIU) and a public one (web de la VIU):

Only accessible by the university’s own teaching staff, consultants and students. It offers, among other services:

• virtual campus sakai
• digiteca
• communications centre
• calendar
• personal details
• virtual secretariat
• virtual communities
• digital libraries

There is also an instant messaging tool called Jabber, integrated into the communications bar similar to Facebook which enables:

• sending messages to unconnected users
• connecting to a personal account from various sites at the same time
• Announcing status on a webpage (absent, connected, not connected, busy etc.)

Public Portal VIU

This is the VIU’s website, the part of the university that can be visited without restrictions safe legal ones and conforms to W3C’s Level AA accessibility standards. It contains information on courses, news about the university, resolutions, excerpts from recorded classes with some of the VIU’s teaching staff, e-learning document sections,...

From 2010 onward, the VIU’s public portal will do open broadcasts of live videoconferences with some of the VIU’s teaching staff (professors, consultants or guest professionals).
